The Köpfhaus (also Köpf'sches Palais ) is a three-storey corner house in the city center of Augsburg . It is located at Fuggerplatz 9 (formerly Philippine-Welser-Straße 28) and essentially consists of various houses that have been combined into one building over the centuries. The oldest parts of the Köpfhaus date from the 14th century.

The building is a monument. A special feature is the gable roof, the volute gable and the dwelling with the curved gable. On the north and west sides, the building has representative facades with a rich gable design.

history

In 1578 the individual houses were combined into one building with a common north facade by the master builder Johannes Holl . It has been inhabited by patricians and mayors since it existed. In 1712 Johann Köpf bought the house and later bequeathed it to his son. In 1738 the architect Johannes Andreas Schneidmann rebuilt the building and gave it its present-day appearance. In the Viennese Baroque style , two-storey gables were added and sweeping portals built in. A representative hall was set up on the ground floor, and the ceiling was also frescoed.

At the end of the 18th century the property became the property of the banking business Georg Walther von Halder and was finally acquired by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 1913. The building survived the air raids without any significant damage. In the 1970s it was first sold to the Siller & Laar company and later used as a department store for the Karstadt company. A coffee house has been located on the ground floor since 2009.
