Kız bağlama

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kız bağlama describes a love spell in Anatolia . The magic translates as "to bind a girl" and according to popular belief in Anatolia it should lead to a girl igniting love for a boy and binding herself to him. Despite the Islamic elements of this magic , this love spell does not correspond to any Islamic practice or regulation of the Koran . This type of magical conception was spread in Anatolia in particular through orders of dervishes .

There are different forms of this spell.

In a variant of the magic (Turkish "büyü") an apple is peeled without breaking the skin. The shell is labeled from the inside. The girl's name comes in front, the boy's name in the back. A certain number of Arabic letters (40 Mim or 70 Sin ) are written in between. With each letter you say the name of the girl and say the formula "bağladım yâ Hu" ("I bound her, O God") to the right. Then you blow to the left. The apple peel is now a muska (Islamic talisman) and is placed under a stone on a path that the girl uses. If the girl passes over three times, the magic should work. After the marriage, the muska has to be removed, otherwise the young woman threatens oneDjinn to decay.

Another Kız-bağlama spell is done with bird feathers. You catch a bird without killing it and take two flight feathers. These are washed in seven wells and they are discussed with the name of the girl who is to be tied. The flight feathers are exposed to the cold overnight. Then you put them on top of each other and hang them up with silk thread. You say the girl's name and blow left and right. They are rolled up in an oilcloth and thrown on the roof of the bride's family the day before the gerdek (wedding night). The Arabic formula "Kulhuvallah" is recited 40 times. This Islamic formula comes from Surat al-Ichlās .

The love spells for “bonding” boys or men are called erkek bağlama . Unlike Kız bağlama , this is supposed to ensure that newlyweds cannot consummate marriage on their wedding night ( gerdek gecesi ).
