Kōzu-shima ( Japanese 神 津 島 ) is a volcanic island in the Pacific Ocean . It belongs geographically to the Izu Islands and administratively to the village of Kōzushima of Tokyo Prefecture .

geography

Kōzu-shima is located in the Pacific Ocean south of Sagami Bay and southeast of the Izu Peninsula . Its area is 18.24 km².

About 5 km west-southwest is the 0.04 km² small, uninhabited island of Ombase-jima ( 恩 馳 島 ).

The last volcanic eruption on Kōzu-shima took place in 838. The Tenjō-san lava dome was created .

Kōzu-shima is part of the archipelago in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park .
