The Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park ( Japanese 富士 箱根 伊豆 国立 公園 , Fuji-Hakone-Izu Kokuritsu Kōen ) is a national park in the prefectures of Yamanashi , Shizuoka , Kanagawa and Tokyo in Japan . The park has an area of 1218.5 km² and was founded on February 1, 1936 . With the IUCN Category V, the park area is classified as a Protected Landscape / Protected Marine Area . The Japanese Ministry of Environment is responsible for the management of the park.
It consists of the volcanic summit of Mount Fuji , the Five Fuji Lakes , Hakone , the Izu Peninsula with the Amagi volcano and the Izu Islands . Nearby are the cities of Odawara , Fuji and Numazu .
