The standard gauge tank locomotives KBE 95–96 of the Cologne-Bonn Railways (KBE) were steam locomotives for light passenger train service and were built by Krupp in 1935 and 1936. The vehicles have been put into service the designation 90 and 91 carried, but were after the construction of the locomotive 90 from the series 81-90 in 95-96 redesignated. The locomotives were in operation until the early 1960s and were retired and scrapped by 1964.

history

The locomotives, like the WLE 0031–0035, were created under the influence of the 64 series and were needed because the KBE lacked an economical steam locomotive for passenger train service on the Cologne-Sülz-Berrenrath railway line . The machine was created after Krupp had also developed and delivered 1'C1 'tank locomotives for the Braunschweigische Landes-Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in 1935 . The machines delivered to KBE by Krupp in 1935 and 1936 were roughly the same in terms of the boiler and the superstructure, but differed in terms of the frame.

The locomotives had upswept as bat ears designated smoke deflectors . The locomotives were considered to be very quiet and were mainly used on the Cologne-Sülz-Berrenrath (Black Railway) line to Berrenrath . In 1958/1959 they were replaced by diesel locomotives and used for casual work until the beginning of 1960. Locomotive 95 was retired and scrapped in 1961, locomotive 96 followed it in 1964.

construction

In the basic variant, both locomotives with crossheads , bearings, swing arm brackets and fittings of the standard design corresponded to the series 64 of the Deutsche Reichsbahn .

The powerful boiler had a flat grate , superheater construction Schmidt , two injectors , safety valves type Coale , low-lying blowpipe and unit vapor extraction socket. The steam engine was equipped with a Heusinger control and a Kuhn loop .

The running axles were designed as Bissel frames. The coupling axles were firmly in the frame, the middle drive axle was weakened in the wheel flange . The drive rod was made quite short, which led to jerking movements in the high speed range.

The bar frame had a sheet metal frame shoeed on at the back. The water supplies were carried in long side boxes and a third container under the coal box. Both locomotives had a compressed air brake and electrical lighting with a turbo generator .
