KEDIT from the Mansfield Software Group is a line-oriented text editor with syntax highlighting and runs under DOS and Windows . Despite having the same name, it is not identical to KEdit , a text editor of the KDE project, but a clone of XEDIT under VM / CMS .

It can also process large files , such as those often used in database imports and exports, at high speed; the size of the files is only limited by the main memory available.

In addition to regular expressions , he also masters line and column-selective editing. For example, it can only contain the 4th and 5th occurrences of a "." Replace with a "," and only in lines that contain the character string "2003" or "2004" in columns 20–30.

It contains an integrated macro language which is a subset of REXX and is called KEXX. It also contains a debugger for these. A demo version is available on the official website; however, it is limited by the fact that it can only save 75 rows.

A free editor based on XEDIT and KEDIT exists under the name The Hessling Editor .
