KK Alkar is a basketball club from Sinj , Croatia . In the 2007/2008 season, the club plays in the Croatian first division.

history

Basketball was first played in Sinj in 1952. Three years later, in 1955, the KK Tekstilac association was founded, which was the forerunner of today's association. In the course of the following years several tournaments were contested with variable success.

In 1965 the club changed its name to KK Alkar and became champions in the Dalmatian League (4th division) in the same year. After promotion to the third division, the club always placed in the top third of the table and in 1972 even won the pre-qualification for the second division in Zadar . In the later main qualification one then failed due to the poorer basket ratio.

In 1978 the KK Alkar moved to a newly built hall for its games. The goal was promotion to the second division, which the club regularly missed until the 1980/1981 season.

Probably the most successful season was 1983/1984, when they only failed in the Yugoslav Cup final to KK Bosna after eliminating the high favorites KK Zadar in the semifinals . In the same year, the KK Alkar rose to the first B league of Yugoslavia.

After the civil war in Croatia, people bravely hold their own in the Croatian first division.
