It was used as a reporting, courier and convoy escort vehicle for all arms and had an air-cooled single-cylinder two-stroke engine with an engine output of 19.5 kW (27 HP). A special feature were the mountable skids to be able to drive better on snow and ice. By using the 20 kg heavy runners, the width of the machine increased to 1250 mm. The tank held 20.7 liters of fuel, which gave the KTM 250 a range of 300 km. The transmission was installed with either a manual or foot switch. The front was decelerated by means of a single-disc brake. A drum brake was used at the rear. Tank bags and saddlebags could be carried for transport. The maximum permissible weight was 300 kg.
