Kiel subcamp

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kiel satellite camp was a temporary satellite camp of the Neuengamme concentration camp . The SS camp existed from July to September 1944.

The SS often put together groups of inmates from the concentration camps for various work assignments, who had to do forced labor outside the camp . These work detachments were also called external detachments. Accordingly, from July 1944, the SS sent around 50 prisoners to Kiel as part of the Todt Organization . This external command was used for clean-up work in the Kiel city area (e.g. bomb clearance). The 50 prisoners from Neuengamme spent the night in a provisional place outside the main camp during these months, but were transferred back to Neuengamme concentration camp in the same year, probably in September .

The Nordmark labor education camp was also located in the Kiel area, but existed until the end of the war in 1945. Colloquially it was also referred to as "KZ Russee" or "KZ Kiel-Russee", which occasionally leads to confusion.
