Kagarlyk (meteorite)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kagarlyk meteorite is an L6 chondrite . It fell on June 30, 1908 , a few hours after the Tunguska event , near the eponymous settlement Kaharlyk , ( Russian: Kagarlyk ), about 80 kilometers south of Kiev .

The mass found is 1.886 kilograms.

The age of irradiation of Kagarlyk was determined to be 16.2 million years, which is typical of many L-chondrites. Apart from the proximity of the fall of Kagarlyk to the Tunguska event, it is also a more typical L-chondrite. It is often argued that a coincidental coincidence with the Tunguska event is unlikely and therefore must be related.
