Kaiser Franz Joseph March

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kaiser-Franz-Joseph-March is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 67). The exact date and place of the premiere are not certain. In any case, the march was played for the first time in Vienna in the summer of 1849.

Remarks

After the suppression of the revolution of 1848 , with which Johann Strauss sympathized, he hurried to show his loyalty to the old forces, which were now ruling again, and thus to make them forget his earlier attitude. However, the earlier forces mentioned had a new head with Emperor Franz Joseph I since December 2, 1848 . With the dedication of this march to the new emperor, the composer embarked on a long path of rapprochement with the imperial family and the government, which was to be rewarded in 1863 with his appointment as court ball music director . The original orchestral version of the work has otherwise been lost and the march was subsequently rearranged by several musicians based on the piano reduction. The CD recording mentioned below is based on an arrangement by Max Schönherr from 1974.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 5 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
