The Kaiserlinde is an approximately 250 year old linden tree and a natural monument near Burg Castle in Solingen .

The imperial linden tree is a winter linden tree ( Tilia cordata ), the trunk circumference of which cannot be determined at a height of 1 m due to the irregular growth form. The special, atypical shape of the tree resulted from the fact that it had been pruned by religious so that an arbor was set up both in it and under it . These arbors were connected by a ladder and, according to tradition, popular places to pray the breviary there.

Location and protection

The Kaiserlinde is listed and protected as natural monument no. 51 in the "Ordinance on the Protection of Natural Monuments for the Area of the City of Solingen" of September 21, 2007. In postal terms, the location is right next to the upper station of the cable car between the lower village of Burg and the castle, on Steinweg .

The location of the imperial linden tree is the former parish garden of Schloss Burg, which was originally much larger so that the linden tree stood in its center.

The Kaiserlinde has been owned by Seilbahn Burg GmbH since 1952 . Tree maintenance measures are carried out approximately every three years , most recently in 2014. These primarily serve the safety of visitors and traffic safety and less the health of the imperial linden tree . The measures are coordinated by the building yard of the city and monitored by the lower nature conservation authority at the city administration of the independent city of Solingen. The new shoots after the cut cost the tree vitality and shorten its lifespan.
