Kaja Tael
Kaja Tael (born July 24, 1960 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian diplomat . From 2012 to 2016 she was the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia in Berlin . Kaja Tael has been the Permanent Representative of Estonia to the European Union since 2016 .
Life and diplomacy
Kaja Tael graduated in 1983 her studies of Estonian Philology at the State University of Tartu from. In 1989 she completed her doctorate in the same subject.
From 1991 to 1995 Tael was the director of the Eesti Instituut , the Estonian state cultural institute.
From 1995 to 1998 she worked as a consultant for the then Estonian President Lennart Meri . Then Kaja Tael joined the diplomatic service in her country. Among other things, she was the Estonian ambassador in London from 2001 to 2006 . In 2006 she became Undersecretary for European Affairs in the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tallinn .
On September 4, 2012, Kaja Tael presented Federal President Joachim Gauck with her credentials as the new Estonian ambassador to Germany. She succeeded Mart Laanemäe , who returned to this post in August 2016 and thus not only became her predecessor, but also her successor.
Ambassador Kaja Tael has been the Permanent Representative of Estonia to the European Union since 2016 .
