Kakinomoto no Hitomaro
Kakinomoto no Hitomaro ( Japanese 柿 本 人 麻 呂 / 柿 本 人 麿 , called Hitomaro; * approx. 660 ; † approx. 720 ) was a Japanese poet. He is one of the 36 immortals in poetry . After the Heian period he was also called Hitomaru ( 人 丸 ).
He became known as a master of the long poem ( Chōka ). His works were mainly about nature experiences and human relationships. In addition, a few works are known that take up the national themes of his creative period. His works - 19 long poems and around 75 short poems ( tanka ) - are published in Man'yōshū .
He was employed as a poet at the courts of the emperors Temmu , Jitō and Mommu .
