Kakku is a pagoda field in Taunggyi , Myanmar in southern Shan State . There are over 2,000 pagodas on an area of ​​306 m wide and 150 m long. Until 2001, visiting Kakku was forbidden for foreigners. Initially only open to tour groups, the "magical place of the Pa-O" (ethnic group in Myanmar) is now also open to individual travelers. According to legend, the first pagodas were built in 300 BC. Have been built. The central stupa (Asokar Stupa) probably dates from the 16th century.
