Kalé

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

An old name of the Roma is Kalé . The word is derived from kalo , Romanes for "black", and is one of the names known from the 18th century for all members of the minority, although - according to the source - subordinate to Roma . It can still be found throughout Europe today for Albanian Ashkali , Finnish Kaale , Swedish Kalé , Spanish and southern French Kalé / Calé , Bohemian Lalere Kale or Welsh Kale ( Welsh Kaale / Volsenenge Kale ).

Like other Roma across Europe, the Kalé are the target of racially motivated actions, including exclusion and denial of equal rights.
