The Kalensche Tor is one of the four gates of the fortification that surrounded the city of Malchin . It is the best preserved gate of the Malchiner city fortifications. The building is a richly structured Gothic brick building from the 15th century with a pent roof and partially glazed tiles. It was built as a double gate. Partial demolition began in 1837. The main gate was demolished in order to increase the passage. It was used as a prison until the 19th century and was restored in 1900. Today the Kalensche Tor is one of the most important sights of the city.

The gate should have got its name from the place (Alt-) kalen , in the direction of which the gate is located. Another derivation of the name would be from the Kaland brothers , whose monastery was on the Mönchhof (Wedenhof) nearby. But this is unlikely.
