Kallikrates (architect)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kallikrates (* around 470 BC ; † 420 BC ) was an ancient Greek architect.

From 449 to 425 he was one of the most important builders in Athens in Pericles . In addition to the Parthenon , which he built with Iktinos , he designed the Nike temple on the Acropolis around 448 BC. He may also have built the similar but somewhat larger temple on Ilisos , which is identified with the sanctuary of Artemis Agrotera .

The Kallikratis program is named after him.
