Kallmünzerfeld on Steinberg near Rinnenbrunn
The Kallmünzerfeld on Steinberg near Rinnenbrunn is a collection of around 80 Kallmünzer blocks .
location
The Kallmünzerfeld is located on the southern slope of the Steinberg, about 600 meters southeast of the abandoned Rinnenbrunn forester's house , a former district of Neuhaus an der Pegnitz .
description
Kallmünzer are silicified sandstones that stand out clearly from the surrounding area. The stone blocks are also called tertiary quartzite and are evidence of a Cretaceous sediment cover. They were formed about 60 million years ago. There are about 80 other such weather-resistant blocks there. The Steinfeld gave the Steinberg its name. The field is designated by the Bavarian State Office for the Environment as Geotope 371R050.
Cyprian stone
The largest of them is the cyprian stone measuring 6 × 4 × 3 meters . It has a circumference of around 17 meters, a volume of 40 cubic meters and a weight of 100 tons. It is probably the largest of its kind in Germany. The stone was named after the geologist Helmut Zyprian .
Access
Access is possible all year round. A small path leads to the field on the drivable forest road from Oberachtel to Bärnhof . The inconspicuous wooden signpost is easily overlooked. There is an information board on site.
