Kallner Mountains
The Kallner Mountains or Kallner Heights are part of a terminal moraine in the Kaliningrad Oblast . They are named after Kallnen in the former Gumbinnen district , today's Gussew Rajon . From 1938 to 1946 this was called Kallnen Bismarckshöh , the other Drachenberg .
Bismarck Tower
The Kallner Mountains with the Bismarck Tower built in 1903 were in the district of Kallnen . It was on the second highest elevation of the Gumbinnen district. From it one had a wide view, to the south as far as the Goldaper Mountains. When the weather was good, you could see the twin towers of the church of Wirballen . To the north, the view of the plain extended far beyond Insterburg . On April 1 (Bismarck's birthday) and June 21 (summer solstice) each year, 1 m 3 of wood was burned down on his pinnacle .
Nothing has survived from the tower or the seven houses in the village. The foundations have also been excavated.
