Kallynteria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kallynteria was a festival held in May in honor of the Greek goddess Athena . It took place on the 22nd of Thargelion .

Here one of her priestesses refills her sacred flame with oil. Although this festival was rather small, it was very important in ancient Athens , as the flame in the temple was never allowed to go out. In addition, the temple was swept and the statue was cleaned. The festival is seen as a kind of renewal, separating the old and gaining space for the new.
