The Kaluga TGK 2-E 1 are a series of standard-gauge diesel locomotives for shunting on industrial railways.

history

The locomotives were produced from 1977 by the Kaluga machine factory for the industrial railways in the GDR . The procurement of diesel locomotives from the former Soviet Union was a consequence of the decision of the Council for Mutual Economic Aid to stop the development of diesel locomotives in the GDR.

The 250 hp machines were imported into the GDR through government agencies. An official list of the imported vehicles and their recipients is not available. The highest known serial number is 184. In addition to these at least 184 vehicles, the locomotive series can be found in the entire Eastern European economic area. The locomotive numbers there differ from country to country. It can therefore be assumed that separate number ranges were assigned for each country.

The use in the GDR was characterized by a lack of maintenance and a lack of spare parts. That is why many locomotives were only used briefly or not at all. A single-digit number is still available today at Werkbahnen in eastern Germany. Only a few of them are still in regular use. There are now around a dozen vehicles on museum railways.
