Canoe racing competition in two-man canoes

The two-man Canadier (C2) (also two-man Canadian or Canadian two-man ) is a boat class in canoeing and is used as a competitive discipline in canoe racing , canoe marathon , canoe slalom , white water racing and playboating . It is a Canadian who is being kneeled around with paddle paddles by two people .

technology

Canoe racing, canoe marathons and whitewater racing In a two-person canoe, the paddle is usually used by both paddlers on the opposite sides of the boat (right and left), with each paddler always paddling on the same side. The front paddler is called the batsman and sets the stroke frequency , which is taken over by the other paddler as synchronously as possible . The straight running of the boat is ensured by a special steering stroke ( J-stroke ). Many paddlers (especially racing) have specialized in one side that they have difficulty keeping the boat in balance when paddling on the other side.

Canoe slalom There is no specific batsman in slalom because both athletes have to act very dynamically. In general, however, one speaks of the man in front as the "engine" and the man behind as the "helmsman". In contrast to racing, it is also common for the person in front to occasionally hit the other side, which is also known as an attack.

Disciplines

The men's two-man Canoe is an Olympic sport in canoe racing (500 and 1000 m) .

In canoe slalom , the two-man Canadians have been part of the World Cup since 1949 and the Olympic program from 1992 to 2008. Two months before the start of the 2018 season, the men's two-man Canadian was removed from the program for World Championships and World Cups, but the C2 mixed (which was abolished in 1981) is to be reintroduced.

Women's races were traditionally unusual in Europe and internationally until the end of the 20th century, but in North America these competitions had been held for a long time and are now part of the World Cup program. Historically, however, there was a C2 mixed in canoe slalom and white water racing with a man and a woman in the boat, this class was a World Cup discipline until 1981 (and should be again from 2019), the discipline is still held at German championships today.

Boat dimensions

The C2 in canoe racing and canoe marathon is a maximum of 650 cm long and has a minimum weight of 18 kg (racing) or 12 kg (marathon). The boat width has not been fixed since 2001 and has since decreased. The newest boats are approx. 45 cm wide. In canoe slalom (C2), a minimum length of 410 cm and a minimum width of 75 cm and a minimum weight of 13 kg have been specified in the regulations since 2013.
