In canoeing , a basic distinction is made between the boat classes kayak and canoe . While there are very different boat sizes in recreational canoeing with up to four paddlers in kayaks and up to ten paddlers in canoes, only certain boat classes are used in competitive sports, for which there are separate building regulations in each canoeing discipline.
