A Kandel (regionally also Kändel, Kännel ) is a trough made of paving stones in the outdoor area with a slope to the drainage facility . In western and southern Germany, gutter and downpipe are also known as candelabras.

Trivia

In Esslingen am Neckar , each year of the university's graduates has been organizing the so-called Kandelmarsch for decades, in which the participants walk with one leg on the sidewalk and the other in the Kandel.

More generally, this joke gait is linked to the lyrics “It's wonderful, you just have to know how to walk on one leg”.
