Kaneda Kazuo

Kaneda Kazuo ( Japanese 金田 和 郎 ; born 1895 in Fukuoka Prefecture ; died 1941 ) was a Japanese painter of the Nihonga direction during the Taishō and Shōwa periods .

Kaneda Kazuo graduated from the "School of Arts and Crafts Kyōto" in 1920 ( 京都 市立 美術 工 芸 学校 , Kyōto shiritsu bijutsu kōgei gakkō ). During his training, he joined forces with young painters such as Tsuchida Bakusen , Ono Chikkyō , Sakakibara Shihō , Ono Chikkyō and others to found the artists' association "Kokuga sōsaku kyōkai" ( 国画 創作 協会 ). At the 1st exhibition in 1918 he exhibited his picture “Peaches” ( 水蜜桃 ), which then received the prestigious Chogyū Prize. At the 2nd exhibition of the "Kokuga sōsaku kyōkai", however, his painted screen "Grapes" ( 葡萄 図 , Budō-zu ) was not accepted.

Kaneda fell ill and returned to Fukuoka. There he taught at the Asakura high school for girls for two years ( 福岡 県 立 朝 倉 高等 女 学校 , Fukuoka kenristsu Asakura kōtō jogakkō ) and then for around 19 years at the Asakura middle school ( 福岡 県 立 朝 倉 学校 , Fukuoka kenristsu . He collapsed in class in 1941 and died.

1991 organized the "Amagi Museum of Fukuoka Prefecture for History" ( 福岡 県 立 甘 木 歴 史 資料 博物館 , Fukuoka kenritsu Amagi rekishiryō hakubutsukan ) together with the National Museum of Modern Art Kyōto a commemorative exhibition , on the 14 paintings and 12 preliminary drawings or sketches by Kaneda were shown.
