Kant Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Immanuel Kant Foundation is a non-profit foundation under civil law . The foundation itself formulates the main purpose of promoting a Kantian cosmopolitan ethos and promoting education for peace and democracy . The foundation named after Immanuel Kant was established in 2004 with a starting capital of € 390,000. The foundation awards prizes to individuals or organizations to honor educational ethical and political public relations work. She also awards grants and writes articles for various publications. The slogan Sapere aude is also used as the foundation's motto.

The Kant Foundation must be distinguished from the Immanuel Kant Association , also known as the Immanuel Kant Foundation , which is a party-affiliated foundation of the AfD . The official Kant Foundation also published press releases in which it clearly distances itself from the AfD party and the Immanuel Kant association.

organization

In addition to the board of directors and founder Berthold Lange, there is a foundation council, which consists of nine members, and an advisory board of five. There are also two sub-foundations. The first sub-foundation is the ETA Hoffmann Foundation . This was founded to promote classical music education . The second sub-foundation serves to promote sustainable ecological measures and is run under the name Protect the Commons .

Activities and partnerships

In addition to the awarding of the Kant prizes and the writing of articles for political-scientific publications, there is a scholarship program . The Freiburg 'Weltbürger-Scholarship' of the Kant Foundation is awarded to talented, needy, foreign students or those with a migration background for degrees at Freiburg universities and is intended to qualify “bridge builders” who, if possible, promote international project cooperation and national integration processes . The not insignificant financial support - in cooperation with the Freiburg Foundation Administration - obliges participants to participate in the annual award ceremony. Further activities can be decided in the Board of Trustees, which meets several times a year.

Many of the foundation's and sub-foundations' activities are carried out together with cooperation partners.

Kant prices

The Kant prizes, which are awarded regularly, are divided into the areas of cosmopolitan , commons and science . The selection of the criteria and the nominated persons or organizations lies with the Kant Foundation. The application process and the screening are explained on the foundation's website.

  • The Kant-Weltbürger-Preis has been awarded every two to three years since it was founded in 2004. People or organizations who were particularly active in areas that correspond to the spirit and purpose of the foundation are shortlisted. The prize has been awarded six times so far.
  • The Kant-Allmende-Preis is awarded for more regional achievements for the protection of common property. So far there has been an award ceremony in 2013 and one in 2016.
  • The scientific Kant funding prizes are aimed at doctoral students and award theses. Dissertations whose content corresponds to the motto of discovering and thinking ahead come into question .
