The Kantplatz is a public square in Darmstadt . It was named after the philosopher Immanuel Kant .

The square is delimited by Pankratiusstrasse to the north, Schloßgartenstrasse to the west and Magdalenenstrasse / Lauteschlägerstrasse to the south. To the east, the square is delimited by buildings.

history

Until the Martinskirche was built in 1885, Kantplatz was the center of the Martinsviertel . The “Initiative lively Kantplatz”, which was founded in 2013, wants to liven up the Kantplatz.

A new building for the university is being built to the east of Kantplatz, where an empty bookshop was located. The four-storey building will contain laboratories, offices and seminar rooms for several disciplines.

A kiosk was built by August Buxbaum on Kantplatz . This stands empty and crumbles.

Events

In June / July and September / October there is a flea market with a reading on the square.

On August 2, 2014, the second Africa Festival took place.
