The Capuchin Monastery of Regensburg is a former monastery in Regensburg in Bavaria in the Diocese of Regensburg .

history

The monastery at Ostengasse 31 was founded in 1613 at the suggestion of Emperor Matthias to support his efforts to balance the denominations in Regensburg. It was used by the Capuchins from St. Matthias until 1810 . Then the monastery was dissolved in the course of secularization . The buildings were handed over to the Poor Clares from St. Maria Magdalena in 1810/1811 , whose own buildings were destroyed by fire during the Napoleonic siege in 1809. They lived in the monastery until 1974, after which it had several users next to each other. As part of the plan for a four-lane Danube avenue with demolition of the Danube front on Keplerstraße and Ostengasse and the intersection of a north-south axis on Danube Market, the city acquired the building complex, but after changing the planning for the entire old town in the 1960s, it was demolished Distanced. After partial renovation, the Regensburg Eastern Church Institute used the complex around the cloister to accommodate Orthodox scholars until 2012. Parts of the city administration and youth welfare moved into other parts of the building. In 2010 the approx. 4000 m 2 large monastery complex was offered for sale by the city of Regensburg. The Peter Trepnau group of companies with a social usage concept was awarded the contract.

After the extensive renovation and renovation work was completed in 2013/14 with a total investment of around 13 million euros by Karree St. Klara GmbH, the Catholic Youth Welfare Service of the Diocese of Regensburg eV acquired the building complex and used it for outpatient assisted living, mother-child facilities, a Educational advice center and apartments. The official inauguration of the renovated building took place on June 12, 2015 with a bishop's mass and blessing.

The costs for the more than 2,500 m 2 of usable space in the areas mentioned amount to around EUR 8.5 million.
