Kar (mythology)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kar ( gr . Κάρ) is a person from Greek mythology . He is considered the first king of Megara .

Kar is the son of the river god Phoroneus and Kerdo and had no offspring. An acropolis of Megara Karia was named after him, where the founding of the Demeter temple is attributed to him. Even at the time of Pausania , his grave could be seen on the road from Megara to Corinth .

Another Kar, according to Stephanos of Byzantium, was the father of Alabandos , the founder of the Carian city of Alabanda . According to the same author, his grave was in the city of Souangela , whose name - according to Stephanos - was formed from the Carian words σοῦα "grave" and γέλα "king".
