Karaoke in the square

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Karaoke on the square ( Ukrainian Караоке на майдані / Karaoke na Maidani ) is one of the most famous TV projects in Ukraine . The program is moderated by Igor Kondratjuk, one of the two co-authors of the project. Andrej Koslow is the second co-author of Karaoke na Maidani . Prior to being broadcast in Ukraine, this program ran for three years on Channel 31 in Russia (February 1997 to the end of 1999). In January 1999 the project started in Ukraine on the Inter channel . Then in 2007 the broadcasting rights were sold to the channel 1 + 1 .

The broadcast runs in several rounds:

  • everyone in the audience on the street is a potential participant in the show;
  • in the first round the presenter sings a song with the audience;
  • those candidates who sang the song best advance to the next round;
  • three finalists will then be selected from these candidates;
  • then the finalists collect the money from the audience in the last round;
  • the candidate who has the most money at the end of his song wins the game.

Defense of Igor Kondratjuk's copyrights in court

One of the Ukrainian television stations illegally founded the Karaoke u Fontana project , which copied the format of the Karaoke na Maidani program . The trial, which lasted three years, represented the first - and successful - defense of the copyrights of an established television format in court.

Chance - continuation of Karaoke na Maidani

The new television format Chance by Igor Kondratjuk is regarded as a continuation of Karaoke na Maidani and moderated by Andrej Kusmenko and Natalia Mogilevskaya. The winner or winners of Karaoke na Maidani automatically participate in the Chance program. Here, with the help of stylists, make-up artists and producers, the participant is completely re-styled within a day. The candidate then presents a song on stage.
