In the development

The Karem AR40 is a light reconnaissance and attack helicopter under development by Karem Aircraft, Northrop Grumman and Raytheon . The AR40 is being developed for the FARA (" Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft ") program, which is part of the US Army's ATCO (" Future Vertical Lift ") program and is intended to produce a successor to the OH-58D "Kiowa Warrior" .

development

Karem Aircraft announced in July 2019 that it has partnered with Northrop Grumman and Raytheon to bring its FARA design to life. On October 16, 2019, Karem presented its AR40 draft. The approximately 14 m long AR40 has some technical features. The three-bladed, rigid main rotor has a diameter of 11 m, whereas the support wings have a span of 12 m. The tail rotor is designed as a pusher propeller. In contrast to the support wings in the middle of the fuselage, the pivoting rear wings are fully movable and arranged in a V-shape. A single turbine from the US Army's Improved Turbine Engine program, the General Electric T901 , will be used as the engine. The pilots sit next to each other in the two-person cockpit, with enough space in the cabin for up to 4 additional people. The internal weapon bay is located directly behind the cabin.
