The Hellerup Sejlklub (HS) was founded on September 25, 1915 by sailing enthusiasts in Hellerup (north of Copenhagen ). The club stand was introduced in 1917. The Hellerup Sejlklub currently has around 900 members, making it one of the largest sailing clubs in Denmark. The club's 56 sailing boats are in front of the club building in the port of Hellerup on Øresund .
Departments of the HS
The Hellerup Sejlklub is divided into two different departments, which are aimed at different age groups.
Junior Department
The Hellerup Sejlklub has one of the oldest junior departments in Denmark with a long tradition of training young sailors. The juniors have the opportunity to acquire the internationally recognized driving license for yachts through theoretical and practical tests.
The juniors sail from 8 to 25 years and use the club's own boat classes Optimist , Zoom8, Europe , Laser , RS Feva , 29er dinghy , Yngling , Monark 606, J / 70 , J / 80 and kite for training . Many juniors of the Hellerup Sejlklub have honored Denmark at international regattas, as well as winning several national championships.
In 1995 the junior department expanded its activities and founded an optimist department with 7-year-old so-called 'jollingers'. A fleet of 19 optimists is used in practical lessons and another three boats are reserved for competition sailing.
Senior Department
The Seniorenbootsausschuß (SBU) founded a senior sailing school in 1974, in which many sailors have since acquired the international driving license for yachts. The club's own yachts Monark 606, Drabant 24, X-79 , Nordborg 26 and Albin Ballard are used for training, cruising and racing . The senior boat committee has ten Monark 606 yachts, the Drabanten and the X-79'er of the club, which are used for both competition sailing and touring sailing.
In addition to sailing training, a variety of sports and leisure activities are offered.
