Ole Berntsen, who sailed for the Hellerup Sejlklub , took part in four Olympic Games in the kite boat class . When he made his Olympic debut in London in 1948 , he was a crew member alongside Klaus Baess on the Danish boat Snap , skippered by his brother William Berntsen . In a total of seven races, the Snap always placed among the best five boats and finished the regatta taking place in Torquay in third place with 4223 total points, giving Baess and the Berntsen brothers the bronze medal behind the Pan by Thor Thorvaldsen from Norway and the Slaghoken received from Folke Bohlin from Sweden. Four years later , Berntsen was skipper himself, while his brother William completed the crew together with Aage Birch . With the yacht Snude they only came in fifth despite winning the third race. The subsequent games in Melbourne were much more successful for Berntsen when he won the silver medal as skipper of Tip with his crew members Cyril Andresen and Christian von Bülow . Although they scored 5723 points like the Slaghöken II from Sweden, led by Folke Bohlin , the Swedes became Olympic champions due to the larger number of races they had won . Third place went to the British boat led by Graham Mann . Berntsen's fourth Olympic participation took place on the occasion of the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo . With the White Lady he became Olympic champion himself this time as skipper: with 5854 points, he and Ole Poulsen and Christian von Bülow narrowly prevailed against the German boat Mutafo, led by Peter Ahrendt , with 5826 points.
