successes
Bengt Palmquist, who was a member of Göteborgs Kungliga Segelsällskap , took part in three Olympic Games in the dragon class . At the Olympic Games in Melbourne in 1956 he was part of the crew of the boat Slaghöken II, led by skipper Folke Bohlin , alongside Leif Wikström . Together they won three of the seven races and finished the regatta with 5723 points tied with the Norwegian boat around Ole Berntsen in first place. Due to the larger number of races won, the Swedes became sole Olympic champions . Third place went to that ofGraham Mann headed British boat. In 1960 in Rome he did not get past 20th place as the skipper of the Galejan , eight years later he was sixth in Mexico City , again as a crew member.
Palmquist also achieved several successes outside of the Olympic Games. In 1975 in Rochester with his sons Björn and Johan he became world champion in kites . He also won the Gold Cup in Ebeltoft in 1978 and in Edinburgh in 1979 .
