Håkon Barfod, who sailed for Kongelig Norsk Seilforening , took part twice in the Olympic Games in the kite boat class . Both times he was a crew member alongside Sigve Lie on the Norwegian boat Pan , which was built by Thor Thorvaldsen and who was also the skipper of the boat. With, among other things, two victories in seven races, the Norwegians won the 1948 regatta in London with 4746 total points just ahead of the Swedish boat led by Skipper Folke Bohlin and the Danish boat led by William Berntsen . Four years later , Barfod succeeded with Lie and Thorvaldsen in Helsinki the repetition of the Olympic victory when they again won the gold medal with the Pan . They won three of the seven races and finished the regatta with 6129 points in front of the Swedish boat led by Per Gedda and the German boat led by Theodor Thomsen . Barfod also won the Gold Cup in Arendal in 1948 and in Vejle in 1950 .

Håkon Barfod was a boat builder by trade and worked in a shipyard near Oslo.
