George Shelby "Buddy" Friedrichs junior (born February 15, 1940 in New Orleans , † March 20, 1991 in Metairie ) was an American sailor .
successes
George Friedrichs, who sailed for the Southern Yacht Club , took part in the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City in the kite boat class . Together with Barton Jahncke and Gerald Schreck , he became Olympic champion in front of the Danish boat led by Aage Birch and the boat from the GDR with skipper Paul Borowski . In seven races they achieved four wins and two second places, which is why they finished the regatta in first place with only six total points with one result, sixth place in the second race. In the previous year Friedrichs, Jahncke and Schreck had already won the World Championships in Toronto . In addition, Friedrichs was North American kite champion from 1965 to 1967 and again in 1970 as well as Canadian champion in 1965 and European champion in 1966.
Friedrichs studied at Tulane University and worked as an investment banker in a company that his father had co-founded.
