Paul Borowski

Paul Borowski (born March 19, 1937 in Rostock , † December 22, 2012 there ) was a German sailing enthusiast .

The trained ship fitter practiced his sport for the SC Empor Rostock . In the 5.5 meter class he was a GDR champion several times and has already sailed here with Konrad Weichert and Karl-Heinz Thun . In the mid-1960s they switched to the Olympic dragon class , in which they won their only championship title in 1969.

The kite crew Borowski, Weichert and Thun won the bronze medal at the European sailing championships in 1968 and at the 1968 Olympic Games in Acapulco . After winning the European Championship silver in 1969, the crew won the European Championship title in 1970 and 1972. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Kiel , the three Rostockers received the silver medal behind the Australian boat.

After the end of his own athletic career, Paul Borowski looked after his sons Jörn and Bodo as coach of SC Empor Rostock . As a board member and later as an honorary member of the Rostock Yacht Club, he supported numerous projects. He died in December 2012 after a long illness.
