Jörn Borowski

Jörn Borowski (born January 15, 1959 in Rostock ) is a former German sailor who competed for the German Democratic Republic until 1990 .

Athletic career

Jörn Borowski sailed with SC Empor Rostock and was trained by his father Paul Borowski . From 1975 Borowski was active together with Egbert Swensson in the 470 dinghy . In 1976 and 1977 the two won their first two championship titles, others followed in 1979, 1980 and 1982. Jörn Borowski and Egbert Swensson took third place at the GDR championships in 1981, while Bodo Borowski, Jörn's younger brother, took second place.

The two won their first international title in 1980 at the European Championships. At the 1980 Olympic regatta off Tallinn, the Brazilians Eduardo Penido and Marcos Soares won just ahead of the two Rostockers and the Finns Jouko Lindgren and Georg Tallberg . Borowski and Swensson also won the silver medal at the European Championships in 1981, this time behind the Italians Tommaso and Enrico Chieffi . Borowski and Swensson celebrated their greatest success when they won the world championship title in front of Cascais in 1982. 1983 followed the second European championship title after 1980.

Borowski completed a sports degree, but worked in the international Baltic Sea ferry business after reunification. He is active as a sailor at the Rostock Yacht Club . In 1999 he and Andreas Berlin won the silver medal at the World Championships in the Flying Dutchman, which was no longer Olympic at that time .
