Konrad Weichert

Konrad Weichert (born March 20, 1934 in Kauern ; † February 8, 2003 in Rostock ) was a German sailor who competed for the German Democratic Republic .

The trained vulcanizer and crane driver did his sport for SC Empor Rostock . In the 5.5 meter class he was a GDR champion several times and has already sailed here with Paul Borowski and Karl-Heinz Thun . In the mid-1960s they switched to the Olympic dragon class , in which they won their only championship title in 1969.

The kite crew Borowski, Weichert and Thun won the bronze medal at the European sailing championships in 1968 and at the 1968 Olympic Games in Acapulco . After winning the European Championship silver in 1969, the crew won the European Championship title in 1970 and 1972. At the 1972 Olympic Games in Kiel , the three Rostockers received the silver medal behind the Australian boat.

Konrad Weichert's younger brother Herbert Weichert took part in the Olympic sailing competitions in 1972, and Konrad's son Frank was also a regatta sailor.
