Carithaios Painter
The Karithaios painter was an Attic black-figure vase painter, active around 530-520 BC. In Athens .
Three hydrians are assigned to him:
- Boston (MA), Museum of Fine Arts 01.8060 [1]
- Reading (Berks County, Pennsylvania) , Public Museum 32.769.1 (formerly New York, Charles W. Gould collection)
- Toledo, Museum of Art 1950.261
On the hydria in Reading a pottery inscription was read as "Karithaios epoiesen", from which the painter got his name. However, the potter may be identical to Charitaios .
The Karithaios painter is one of the minor masters .
