Karl Zoeppritz Prize

The Karl Zoeppritz Prize is a geophysical prize for young talent, which is sponsored by the German Geophysical Society e. V. (DGG) is awarded at its annual meeting. It was awarded for the first time in 2003 and the aim was to award it annually. The prize is intended to honor young scientists from all geophysical fields who can demonstrate a special achievement (early habilitation , excellent doctoral thesis , etc.). The Karl Zoeppritz Prize is endowed with prize money of 1,000 euros.

The prize is named after Karl Bernhard Zoeppritz (1881–1908), a student of Emil Wiechert in Göttingen and thus one of the pioneers of modern seismology . Despite his untimely death at the age of 26, the extremely talented researcher left important findings that marked a great advance in seismology.
