Karl Bosch (statistician)

Karl Bosch (born August 17, 1937 in Ennetach ) is a German statistician . From 1977 until his retirement in 2005 he was a professor at the Institute for Applied Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Hohenheim and is particularly known for his widespread teaching and reference works in the field of statistics and applied mathematics, as well as for publications on chances of winning the lottery .

Life

Bosch studied mathematics from 1959 to 1964 at the Universities of Stuttgart (TH) and Heidelberg . It was founded in 1967 on the subject of functions of Markov chains at the TU Braunschweig doctorate and his habilitation there in 1973. In 1976 he moved to the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim, where he received a year later a professor at the Institute of Applied Mathematics and Statistics, which he held until his retirement in 2005. His main research areas are reliability theory, maintenance, repair and inspection processes as well as gambling. In Hohenheim he became a member of the Corps Germania .
