Karl Fischer (born September 22, 1877 in Ludwigshafen , † February 25, 1950 there ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

Karl Fischer was a trained lathe operator. In 1897 he became a member of the German Metalworkers' Association (DMV). In 1903 he became chairman of the DMV district of Ludwigshafen and in 1906 full-time managing director. He was also chairman of the supervisory board of the consumer association and chairman of the union cartel . During the First World War he was drafted into military service from 1914 to 1917. In 1923 the French occupation forces arrested Fischer and expelled him from the Palatinate . In 1924, back in Ludwigshafen am Rhein, he became chairman of the ADGB in the city. In 1933 he was taken into "protective custody" by the National Socialists and removed from all posts. He was then unemployed until 1940. After the Second World War , Fischer played a key role in rebuilding the trade unions in Ludwigshafen. In 1945 he became chairman of the FDGB and deputy chairman and later managing director of the metal industry association. In 1947/48 he was deputy chairman of the union cartel.

Fischer became a member of the SPD in 1898. From 1918 to 1933 he was a member of the city ​​council of Ludwigshafen am Rhein, in which he was parliamentary group leader from 1920. From 1928 to 1933 he was a member of the Bavarian state parliament for the constituencies of Ludwigshafen I and II. From 1946 until his death he was again chairman of the SPD parliamentary group in the Ludwigshafen city council.
