Karl Franz von Irwing (1728–1801)

Karl Franz von Irwing (born November 28, 1728 in Berlin ; † December 17, 1801 ) was a German senior consistory advisor and philosophical writer.

His parents were Wilhelm von Irwing and Maria von Jablonski , a daughter of the philosopher Daniel Ernst Jablonski .

He was a member of the Berlin Wednesday Society . Influenced by the Swiss empiricist Charles Bonnet , Irwing traces all knowledge back to external and internal experience; like the latter, he emphasizes the function of attention and the activity of the soul and, like Johann Georg Sulzer , differentiates between sensations and feelings. Language creates understanding, concepts are actually words.
