Karl Steiner (politician, 1897)

Karl Steiner (born October 7, 1897 in Oberkulm ; † August 31, 1985 in Aarau ) was a Swiss politician ( BGB ), author and amateur filmmaker.

Steiner left the cantonal teachers' college at the age of fifteen and worked as an assistant on a farm. In 1915 he opened his own farm in Oberkulm in Aargau . In this community he became the administrator of the agricultural cooperative, fire brigade commander and councilor. He was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Aargau and sat on the National Council from 1955 to 1967 for the farmers, trade and citizens' party . His main concern was the promotion of small and medium-sized farmers.

Karl Steiner portrayed life in his region with a camera, writings and, from 1936, also with film. His films have been preserved. One of his most impressive works is a film portrait of the older population of Oberkulm.
