Karlsgarten in Aachen-Melaten
The Karlsgarten in Aachen-Melaten is a garden based on historical models in the Aachen district of Melaten, in which medicinal herbs , vegetables, fruit trees and other useful plants are grown according to the list in Chapter 70 of Charlemagne's Capitulare de villis .
On September 2, 2000, the Karlsgarten at Gut Melaten was opened by the Friends of the Botanical Garden Aachen, a registered association. In the design, “elements of European garden culture were deliberately used, because Charlemagne's herb garden never existed in this form, even in Aachen. The Aachen Karlsgarten is a modern and contemporary interpretation of the Capitulare List. It reminds of Charlemagne and the tradition of the monastery gardens. "
The Freundeskreis Botanischer Garten Aachen also maintains another, much smaller Karlsgarten at Aachen City Hall , which has existed since 1965.
