The meter-gauge tram locomotives Karlsruher Lokalbahn 89-95 were procured in 1890 by the Central Administration for Secundairbahnen Herrmann Bachstein for the Karlsruhe Local Railway . They were manufactured by the Maschinenbau-Gesellschaft Karlsruhe and were retired around 1930 , with the exception of the later SEG 90 .

history

Karlsruhe local railway

The machines operated from 1890 on the Karlsruhe local railway. On April 1, 1897, the railway was transferred to the Süddeutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft (SEG). From this point on, the locomotives were referred to as SEG 89-95 , but remained on their previous routes.

The SEG 89 was retired in 1904 after an accident, the others drove until 1930 and were then retired.

The SEG 90 was handed over to Haid & Neu in Hagsfeld in 1933 and later made its way to the Karlsruhe sewing machine factory , where it existed until 1962 and was then taken out of service.

Zell – Todtnau railway line

The SEG 93 locomotive was relocated to the Zell – Todtnau line by the Süddeutsche Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft in 1903, as there was a locomotive overhang due to reduced operations on the Karlsruhe local railway. The locomotive, nicknamed the Würfellok or Zebra in operational service , primarily had to perform pre-tensioning services for the SEG 73 and 74 and the SEG 103 . If the passenger trains only consisted of up to three cars, the SEG 93 could drive them alone. In winter she took over the snow plow service.

In 1914 she left the Wiesental and was replaced by SEG 69 . The whereabouts of SEG 93 are not known.

technology

The locomotives were box locomotives with a horizontal boiler, inner frame, outer cylinders and Stephenson controls . The locomotives were provided with a closed driver's cab and equipped with a roof condenser to reduce exhaust fumes and to recover the steam in the boiler feed water. The steam dome was roughly in the middle of the locomotive, the sand dome and the dining dome in front of it. There was an ascent at the rear end of the locomotive. The machines were equipped with a Hardy brake and a handbrake.
