Carmelite Monastery of St. Barbara (Würzburg)
The Carmelite Monastery of St. Barbara was a monastery of the Shoed Carmelites (OCarm) in Würzburg in Bavaria in the Diocese of Würzburg .
history
The monastery in Karmelitenstrasse, consecrated to Saint Barbara and founded in 1252 by the Order of the Carmelites with the help of Bishop Iring , was dissolved in 1805 in the course of secularization . From 1805 to 1822 this monastery served as military accommodation , most recently as "hussar barracks". The church was closed and used as a salt store. In 1822 the monastery complex, the church of which was demolished in 1823, became the property of the city and was demolished in 1824/25 to expand the town hall.
