Karolinenstrasse 19 (Eisenach)
The building at Karolinenstraße 19 is a listed apartment building on Karolinenstraße in the north of the city center of Eisenach in Thuringia .
history
The multi-family house was built in 1907 by Landhausgesellschaft Eisenach on Karolinenstrasse, on the corner of Dresdener Strasse. The building subsequently changed hands several times as an investment property, initially belonging to the civil servant Wilhelm John and from the 1930s to the 1950s the Gerstung factory director Martin Messerschmidt.
The last private owner bequeathed the building to the municipal housing administration during the GDR era , as she could no longer financially maintain it. After 1990 the previous owner initiated a restitution procedure that was successful after a process lasting several years. The owner finally sold the restored, meanwhile vacant property to a construction investor who began the renovation of the building in May 2014. With the participation of the monument authority, the facade with its wooden decorative elements was faithfully restored in 2014.
